Re: When Family Members Don't Respond

Just need to vent as I am in the same boat as you were. I sent out letters in May announcing BIG plans for our next reunion in Aug 2008. Gave a deadline for folks to reply by 1 Aug 2007 to say yea or nay and how many would attend so I can see where to go and what to plan. Well you guessed it--about 10 out of the 80 that were contacted via mail and email sent back the form. A few responded back by email but nothing concrete on numbers to make the big plans I was dreaming about. So I mainly just said forget it..NOW DECEMBER--everyone wants to know whats going on with the reunion...but instead of calling me they call MY MOTHER who lives in the "family home state" where most of them live to TELL her they plan to attend because of course calling me would be long distance since they know I call home 2 or 3 times a week to check in with her. She is frustrated saying I should keep them informed but to me if they didn't respond why should I waste my nickle or 49 cents on a stamp? But anyway most of the plans for the reunion have fell through so I decided to move the location of the reunion from the big city to the smaller home town we are all from--needless to say that is not going over well with the initial responders but--I know I can get greater numbers to attend by doing this. I'm stuck now trying to decide what to do--should I cancel or try and salvage what I started or move the location..time is flying and with the holidays I just can't wrap my mind around all of this?? I was going home for Xmas to try and make some plans but I'm just too confused at this point. Lesson learned already--never do this alone or long distance. Toni
