I am familiar with the Island. As per the movie, it was entitled Conrack, starring John Voight, Paul Winfield and Madge Sinclair, who was a beautiful actress, born in Kingston, Jamaica. The film was based on Pat Conroy’s memoir entitled The Water is Wide (because he traveled by boat to teach the children on Yamacraw Island). He has a passion for teaching! Very inspirational and great educational film.
