Hi Joseph,
The LENOIR/MANN/GIBBS Reunion had the opportunity to tour the LENOIR DEVON ACRES farm in Haywood Co. NC. as the crowning point in our reunion. This was the place our ancestors worked during slavery. The Corn Crib and the Spring House are still in existence. We were also allowed to blow the horn used to call the slaves in from their labor. Hopefully in 2009, we will meet at Ft Defiance in Lenoir, NC. General William Lenoir built the Ft and we know that the slaves were shuttled back and forth from the Ft to the Farm as needs dictated.
In 2006, my family of Smathers/Walkers toured the Shook Museum in Clyde,NC prior to our annual Thanksgiving Dinner.
If at all possible, I agree that going back in time to tour the site would be highly recommended.
Blessings
Gwen
