Family Reunion Forum
I tried to get family members to order t-shirts using cafe press. Of course none did. I noticed that AC Moore often has t-shirts 5 for $10. As part of our gifts (in addition to goode bags) I made up about 10 t-shirts with iron on transfers from Sams (less then 15 for 24) so the shirts amounted to about $3 each. I gave 4 of the t-shirts to my kids and myself. Each gift (not just shirts) were wrapped and got a number. The plan was to put corresponding numbers in a bag and let each household pick a number.
Unfortuantley a few days before the reunion dinner and family fun day (I helped with the dinner and started and organized the fun day) my 10 year old fell ill and was hospialized diagnosed with a brain tumor (treatment pending). Yet a few family members stepped up and took over my part. It went off with few to no problems. Everyone got to just select their prize number.
More importantly my daughter is doing better mentally and with prayer and treatment she is healing and will recover completely.
I already had many of the gifts I wanted to give. I got items for the goodie bags from free sample sites and fourms as well as freecycle.org (coffee cups, etc). I even purchased a few gifts such as a waffle iron which was supposed to be done in conjunction with a gag gift or wrapping pancake mix and when the person who pulled that number opened their gift giving them the waffle iron later. I put coffee samples or tea bags in coffee mugs. T-shirts were prizes as well. I made a simple beauty basket. The fun day was at a local small amusement park (clementon park, NJ) and I charged everyone 13.50 altough it cost 11.75+tax. The park has a evening package which is cheaper then the full day and we bought our own food.
I made goodie bags for the reunion dinner and did a couple of prizes from the samples and freecycle.
All togther including both events we had maybe 80 people total. We are trying to improve attendance and particpation. Its hard so many complaints especially about price but no help. I am surveying family to help my aunt plan next years.
Any ideas or suggestions???
