My late Mom said that after slavery my great -Grandfather and his family chose the name Crockett-after some "benevolent" Caucasian woman-. I think my great grandfather actually chose the name when he purchased himself-All the other family members followed suit and they moved from mississippi to Illinois, Missour,And whever else-Thanks again-Karen
