"For so long we HAVE felt alienated from everyone else. They never came to any of our weddings, any event we invited them to and when we went to our hometown, we were basically ignored."
I'm very happy that your reunion was overall a success and that you survived character assassination by making a real connection with your Little Rock relatives. All I can tell you about the negativity you and your immediate family have always felt from your other relatives is what my mother once told me after the church gave up a chorus of Amen's after I sang my first solo on program and a fellow choir member gave me the "evil eye". Mom said sometimes people just think you can do something better than they can and they don't like it and they don't like you. It doesn't make sense and this happens in families all too often. What to do about it? As Christians, we pray for them...and honey, GO ON!
Many blessings planning your next year's reunion, Lorine!
