Re: Friends at the Family Reunion
In Response To: Re: Friends at the Family Reunion ()
I have read every post and viewed every picture on this site, even those on the links (saw all of the Allens' and Art Thomas', great pics). I am so glad that I am not alone. It seems we all have the same problems with our families. I have had experience with just about every problem mentioned in these post. In my family we have a coordinator, chairpersons and committees in the various hosting states. I am the national coordinator for all states. I guess that's why I've run into all those different situations. At our last reunion held in MS the home state, we had over 500 people in attendance. Not a lot of participation from the local families (only about a 100). They all had different crazy excuses for not attending. Would you believe some of them would not attend because they could not have liquor in the park? We had the entire Holiday Inn, in Hattiesburg, MS and overflowed to some of the other hotels. Family reunions are big business for hotels. For those having trouble finding accommodations, contact the Convention and Visitors Centers in that area. If all else fails, contact a travel agent/consult, (I am a travel consultant - Jesme Travel) we do have resources that the general public does not have. Friends attending - no one is going to travel hundreds of miles to a reunion and stay in their room, com'on! We have a fee for single adultss attending the reunion (half the family fee), friends and guest pay the same as a single person. We've never had a problem with our singles paying half as much as a family, because we have stressed to them that without their help some of these larger families might not be able to attend the reunion. We do reunion packages. We have a registration time and when you register, if you have paid all your fees, you receive your packages with all the information you will need for the reunion, including your t-shirts if you ordered them. Name tags, tickets for all activities, maps, directions, and etc., are included. We have a few stragglers but not as many as before we started passing out the packages. The only thing that we are lenient with is the picnic because we usually have more than enough food, but if they show up and haven"t paid, we collect that money and give them a ticket for a plate - no ticket no plate! Most of the people that show up with out paying are usually the locals. Being the coordinator for every state the problems are usually referred to me to deal with. They'd rather pay their money than deal with me. My printed is burning up from printing all of these good ideas that have been submitted to this forum. When I impliment these ideas that I have gotten from you all on this forum, I'm sure that I will have a great successful TRAVIS FAMILY REUNION, July 22-24, 2005 in CRESTVIEW, FLORIDA. THANKS FOR SHARING AND LETTING ME SHARE THIS WITH YOU.
