Hi, I haven't seen your family webpage, but when doing genealogy nothing is more frustrating than waiting for a webpage to load. The more glitz the longer it will take to load. Also, you want everyone to be able to view it and possibly contribute to the family info that you have or to make contact as a new family member. Those with older computers or a dial up connection will have a hard time accessing a page with too many photos, graphics, etc on it. The key is providing information while at the same time making it as easy as possible to access. Most people will not wait around to read a page that takes a long time to open. So glitz should not be the focus.
I have had my website up for over 10 years. I built my page using WEBTV back in 1996 and I had never written "code" before. And because of the limitations of WEBTV I also know what it is like not to be able to access some of the webpages because of too much unnecessary stuff. Good and accurate information that has been submitted to a large search engine service and getting the word out via mailing lists, forums, etc is all that is needed to get activity on your site. The written word is what is important even if there are not graphics at all on a page. Unless you have attempted to write "code", please don't criticize the person who did make the attempt. It takes hours and hours to do a webpage even if all that you are adding is information.
Getting of my soapbox.
