Re: Need a shoulder...

Damita hit the nail on the head. Cultural differences definitely play a role! Believe it or not, it's like pulling unloosened teeth trying to get many folk in small-town, Southern America to venture much outside of their environment, hence the phrase "Stuck in a Box." (If you live in a small, Southern town, please don't bite me for saying that. :) ) But it's the truth! :)

You, I, and many others know that $35 per person and $74 per night for the hotel room is absolutely a GREAT PRICE!! My maternal grandmother's maternal family is having a reunion this year in August, and their fee is $100 per person. It's a tad bit more than I am personally used to paying ($75-$85 per person), but since I want to meet more of this branch of my family, I am saving for it! I understand that some people are not financially able, but many are, and the ones who are will be the ones to complain about the fees! People seem to don't balance the scale of paying the fees and attending a great event versus not going because they consider it too expensive, although they can muster up the fees w/ little problem. Then, they chose the latter, letting "stingyness" tip the scale of not coming together with the family. And in my book, that's sad.

I truly hope that soon, money will pour in. Also, I think you stated that many folk said that they are planning to attend, but they haven't sent a dime. In my first response when I was concerned back in 1998 of the attendance, a similar situation occurred. I got word that a number of people were planning to attend, but very few had met the deadline. But luckily, they did attend and our 98 reunion were attended by close to 150 - an big increase from our 96 reunion.

Keep The Faith!
