I feel for you, Lorine. Sounds like you have hauled a-- to get this reunion off the ground, and done well, to say the least. There were reunions in WI and IL a few years back for my Walker line, but I was never able to attend. I was also never able to get my Walker cousins in southern CA to interested enough to attend. I'm a latecomer to the family scene, but they grew up knowing their Walker relatives. Their arguments were always the same: "Why can't they meet us halfway? Have a reunion in Denver or something? Why do we always have to spend our money travelling to THEM when all they have to do is hop in their cars to get to the reunion?"
Had to admit that my sentiments echoed theirs because my funds at the time were meager and later my husband and kids simply were not interested. Disheartening.
Now that one of our mainstay organizer-cousins is ill, I think the others back in IL area have probably abandoned Walker reunions altogether. I don't know because the communication window between us slowly closed as my cousin's illness progressed. They don't know me, anyway, and most have never met me.
Solution to your problem? Try to get the contracts voided. Pray and pray and explain to them and pray some more. How can you pay whatever those contracts are worth, and why should you by yourself?
Mel Collier offered you a little more hope. He spoke from experience and advised you to hang in there, and maybe folks will show up at the last minute and funds will roll in AFTER the deadline. I most certainly hope and PRAY that this is the case for you. Good luck!!
