I recently learned of the Hawkins family reunion (Halifax County, NC) scheduled for 6-8 July 2007 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. I'm descended from the Hawkins on my paternal grandmother's side. They hope to have 2,500 participate this year. Lord willing, I plan to be there, and it will be my first time to attend.

One of the main coordinators, Terence Wyche is also author of a book covering an extensive history of the HAWKINS family. Title: Sary...Our Beginning. A Genealogy of the Black Hawkins Family of Halifax County, NC. The 4th edition of the book will be available for sale.
