I think it is a wonderful idea! Life has no guarantees, so don't wait. I can picture a skating party on the pond, with hot cocoa, wool blankets, warm cinnamon buns, a fire to site by, sledding, snowman contests, etc, and why not have each family make ornaments to decorate a family tree? Winter is a wonderful season. I thought of a summer reunion for my family but thought, "why do we have to wait a whole year.
