I have known for a couple of years that my g-grandma and her siblings were the offspring of a well-known white businessman and an African-American woman who was listed in the census as his housekeeper. These were my great-great grandpa and grandma.
During an online search in the county where they lived, I found out this summer that the family was having a big reunion. They invited everyone to a weekend filled with homage to the Confederacy, in a place where I know from personal experience that they are still fighting the war.
Obviously not my cup of tea. On the other hand, I want to learn more about my g-g grandparents.
Have any of you had the experience of attending what I know must have been an all-white reunion? Was it worth doing?
