One year, we developed a list of 10 family history questions. There were about 8 persons per table. Whichever table answered all of the questions, all of them won a door prize. The questions were not too easy and were not too hard. That was a good way to present the family history.

Another idea: if the room, where the Gala Ball will be held, is equipped with an overhead screen, generate a nice, semi-detailed family tree and print it on a transparency. If you can get an overhead projector, display the tree, and briefly talk about the family tree and the history of the family. People love visuals. This way, you really don't have to generate a PowerPoint presentation.
