The first of the George and Ellen Brown/ Peterson family reunion was held during the first week of July 1982.
The stated reason for the family reunion was that a relative by the name of Velma A. Murphy an employee of HRS, met a lady in the course of her work that reminded her very much of her mother.
After some conversation with this lady, Lelia Brown Curry, was the first cousin of Velma’s mother.
Velma promised Lelia that she would plan to hold a family reunion soon for the George and Ellen Brown/ Peterson family members.
A committee was formed from the descendants of George Brown and Ellen Brown. Peterson.
The first planning committee consisted of Marie Sheffield, Lelia Curry, Verna Mae Sheffield, Ely Campbell Jackson, J.C. Brown, Samuel Peterson, Carolyn B. Conner, Margrett C. Dotson, Esther A. Jackson, Velma Andrews Murphy, Brenda Potter
