Re: Deciding Next Reunion Location
In Response To: Re: Deciding Next Reunion Location ()
Since our Families originated in Emanuel County, Georgia, we still have a lot of relatives in Georgia and Florida. Many have moved up North to NJ, Philadelphia and New York City. Because of this distance gap between relatives, we start out by saying that we will rotate our Reunion between a northern and southern location. We have our Reunions every two years. So, if a southern city accepts the host responsibility in 2006, the "South" won't have to host again until 2010.
We ask relatives, from the applicable region, to come to our breakfast business meeting and make a sales pitch to the Family for the city of their choosing. We do not allow one (1) Family member to recommend a city where they do not live or live nearby to do he work involved. Most of the time, some one comes prepared to make a sales pitch for their designated city.
One year, no one volunteered, so we had it in Mt. Laurel, NJ where we all know the routine very well with the Hotel. So, we basically just used an earlier Reunion format...same menu, etc. This just involved a few phone calls to the Banquet Manager, signed the contract and it was a done deal. Sent the notices out to Family as to where it would be held...costs, etc. When some folks complained about having it in Mt. Laurel again, this was a great opportunity to give them the opportunity to volunteer and host the next Reunion.
