Re: Deciding Next Reunion Location
In Response To: Deciding Next Reunion Location ()
We started out rotating it between Nassau, Miami & Key West, but that got old pretty quick.
Usually our next reunion location is determined when a specific group invites us to their city. Of course, they've already done a lot of work spreading the word about their bid and laying the groundwork before the final reunion session so that everyone knows they're bidding.
We have a group stand up and invite us to their city and if there are no competing bids, that's the place. If there are other cities bidding, or if the overall group has concerns about that particular city, then you can tell during the vote and discussion that follows. If that's the case, we'll try to solicit other cities as hosts or mail out ballots to get ideas and votes. Usually things will resolve themselves before we get to the ballots. For example, both Miami and Daytona Beach announced during the 2002 reunion that they were interested in hosting the 2004 reunion. A week after the reunion, I received notice from a representative of the Miami area family that they would concede to Daytona Beach. That was good news; saved me from having to mail ballots to the family.
Of course it never gets decided the same way twice. For this year's reunion, the PM invited us to Nassau during his 2004 keynote address and the Nassau family was stuck with organizing the 2006 reunion... whether they wanted to or not!
