Re: How Are the Plans?
In Response To: How Are the Plans? ()
I'm finally feeling as though we're making some progress with our upcoming reunion. I've been so envious of those of you who could answer this post, but now I'm able to pipe up and add my two cents. ;-)
The Nassau committee has had a tough time getting things together, due in part to the death of one cousin and the scandalous, senseless murder of another. Add to that the international factor and a two-month delay in getting the reunion notices in the mail and... well let me just say that it's been a challenging few months.
We had a couple of cousins start a rumor that the reunion was cancelled, despite the fact that I've been using the website to post every little bit of reunion information I received from the Nassau committee. I've had A LOT of cousins complain that the hotel rates/fees/ad prices/day trip cost are too high - I mean we've had it all!
But thank the Lord that things are now on the move. The Nassau committee FedExed me the American reunion packages and I put them in the mail last night. Note: no matter how informative your website is about reunion events, everyone will STILL want to receive the information in the mail.
I guess you can count me among those who want to receive information in the mail because now that I've gotten my hands on those copies, I'm even more excited! Even though there are far fewer reunion events scheduled than usual (only 1 per day to give us a chance to play tourist), I think this will be one of the best reunions we've had. Mainly because we're really going back to our roots - not just to Nassau, but also with the optional day trip to Eleuthera on that Monday. I'm thrilled to visit the island upon which our ancestors were born! And the committee has been in touch with long-lost relatives who live there. We will take a ferry ride to Eleuthera, have a tour of the island, lunch and a meet & greet with the descendants of Susan Allen, for whom we had only two children listed on the family tree. Turns out her two children had five and eight children respectively, so you can imagine the number of descendants today! I'm sure I'll spend my time there taking down names to add to the family tree, but I'll enjoy every minute of it - writer's cramp and all! ;-)
