Doll, seems like we may be related to some of the same people!
Our family has tried several different ways, with the usual complaints for each.
If we have the picnic and banquet on Saturday, we worship at a church of our choice on Sunday morning
Because of the ages of our senior participants [92-98], and their methods of mobility [wheelchairs/walkers], at our last reunion, we tried to have all of the main activities in the hotel, with off site activities available.
Our contract with the hotel provides continuous use of the ballroom from Friday registration until we dismiss on Sunday. On Saturday afternoon, we have boxed lunches brought in, with that time set aside for family history. We let the elders talk and answer questions about their youth, parents, etc., or we have live entertainment.
Sunday mornings we have our own worship service. Volunteer family choir, and sermon. We have no shortage of ministers, our problem is not to leave anyone out, so we have scripture, prayer, everything but the offering. After worship service the room is cleared to allow the hotel to rearrange the room for our luncheon.
