Re: Family Reunion Institute Conference
In Response To: Family Reunion Institute Conference ()
I attended the Family Reunion Institute in Pittsburgh, March 17-19, 2006, and was very pleased with the sponsors, vendors and workshops. The pre-conference tour of Pittsburgh, a multicultural showcase, and the welcome reception was at Pittsburgh's most popular Jazz club "Dowe's on 9th Street were GREAT! Everyone was prepared and ready to share information and it was a great opportunity to network with Edith Wagner from Reunions magazine as she is looking for families to highlight in her magazine. There was more than 125 people in attendance with a majority people of color. This was my third time at the conference but the first time that I had to go out of town for it and the hotel (Marriott) was great! The Pennsylvania Tourism Office sponsored a great deal of the conference and wants to keep it in PA, but Alamaba and Georgia are working their magic to offer great packages. The Convention & Visitor's Burueas were fantastic and gave away a lot of goodies. Exhibitors includes Carnival Cruise LInes, National Archives & Records Administration, Pcono MOuntains Vacation Bureau, Amtrak and Black Meetings and Tourism Mazine to name a few. Next year's reunion will be in PHiladelphia and I think that more people should make an attempt to go. Dr. Vargus and her staff has worked miracles with this conference and it was worth every minute.
