Ashmun Institute was founded in 1854. Its mission statement delineated it as an institution providing higher education to male youth of the colored race. In 1864, following the Civil War, it changed its name to Lincoln University (not to be confused with the Lincoln University of Missouri). Cheyney University was not a college during the 1800' but a normal school, providing primary and secondary education. Messages In This Thread
