Afircan Americans In National Newspapers
By:Art Thomas
Date: 4/23/2011, 10:54 am

Following the lead of the "new" African American Newspaper Forum here is an article from the NY Times. The article is about the 17th Emancipation Day celebration which was held in Findlay, Ohio (1880). Gen U.S. Grant and Senator Roscoe Conklin posted to Emory W. Adams, organizer of the event, their regrets for not being able to attend.

Emory Wendall Adams, the event organizer, was the 27 y/o son of David Adams, an acknowledged African American abolitionist and former UGRR Operator in the Findlay and Hancock Co., OH area.

p.s. The article was furnished by Reita Ann (Bynum) Smith, a grandniece of Emory W. Adams.
