Re: Looking for Farming Ancestors in 1870 Census
In Response To: Looking for Farming Ancestors in 1870 Census (David Paterson)
In the 1870 census my ggrandfather was listed as a farmer with $150.00 assets. He was in Madison County Alabama. His name was John Napier. From the 1866 tax registration he got to Madison County Alabama in 1866. I have his farm schdule for,1870 ,1879,1880.I also have a paper saying he was sharecropping for someone in 1875.I cannot figure out who he was working for or was that land his in 1870.He lived close to a Henry Turner in 1870 who he may have been working for in 1870 but i don,t know.Only his name is listed with other's on that 1870 farm schdule.I think those black Turner's listed on that census with him were former slaves of Henry Turner's but my ggrandfather didn't get there until 1866.So i'm been trying to figure out did he work for Turner or not, since only his name is listed on those schdule's and no one else.
