Anna says
"I have him in 1866 and 67 in another County. Was slavery over in 1863 or 1865.I am trying to fill in those blank years right after the war. Anna"

I would recommend that you focus the slave owning family for the years in question. Look at all possible transactions including land records, bills of sale. gifts etc. Is there a research history of the slave owning family? Is there a trace of them in The Alabama Records? Did you find his neighbors in the years in question?

If your kin or his children owned land try and obtain those transaction details. From what county did kin originate? Are there Federal Department of Transportation/relocation records available for your Alabama Counties? Is there a mention in The Acts of Alabama? Church membership records or other membership records may yield clues.
