Mr. Smith is 14 years older than my maternal granddad. After my screaming and crying for about 15-20 minutes re: Obama's victory, I called my granddad that night. I could actually hear him smiling on the other end of the phone. I screamed, "we did it, Granddaddy!"

My mom told me today that my granddad has been emotional ever since Obama's win (and let's just say, he is not necessarily the 'emotional' type of fellow, lol). She said she drove up to church this morning and could hear the church erupted in all kinds of praise and worship--unhinged, from the parking lot. She entered the church and the energy seemed to be highest at the front of the church. She focused her eyes through the standing crowd and could see an old man who was sort of alternating between his arms stretched high to God and sort of conducting the church choir. She said, oh, that must be Cousin Thaniel. She looked a bit more and was shocked to see that it was my granddad! He had arrived at the top of the service to request his the song he wanted to hear in honor of the Obama, "It's Praying Time."
