Cont' Freedmans Bureau Records 11/3/1868
Moses Shannon raised cotton on land cleared by him, his wife Jennie and family. L.T. Chew went to Shannon's house, pulled a revolver and threated to shoot Shannon in the head. Chew had a black man named Billy along with a man by the name of A.M. Jackson to load up the bales of cotton on a wagon and take it to town. The cotton was unloaded near a store downtown. On 11/28/1868 the Bureau found in favor of Moses Shannon. The bales of cotton was sold and Moses was awarded $28.00 in lawful currency. ------------------- Freedman's Contract made by A H Adams (white) Freedmen who are to get one/ half share of cotton and corn for their payment
