In Response To: Re: William MANN during Reconstruction? (Anna Williams)
Anna, thanks for your response but what we know I think I wrote but if I didn't here is what we know William Mann was married to Mary Elizabeth, the first known info is that he is in Port Gipson Miss.around 1870. At that time my grandfather Thomas Mann was born and there was an older daughter Mary who was born in 1860.The records show that Mary Elizabeth was a mulatto born in VA. William the records say was born in Port Gibson Miss.around 1840+/-3 years. But how did Mary Elizabeth get to Miss. Family oral tradition says that William came from a town named Mann.I could not find anything like that in Miss. But I did find a place called Mannsboro in VA. William and family show up in Hampton VA. in 1880 with 5 children Thomas b.1870,William b.abt.1874 Alex b.1875 Emma b. 1872 and Mary b.1860 who by 1880 isw married to a Dennis Reid from North Carolina.
