You might try the Rootsweb surname forum for Crawford. The people are really good about providing any possibly helpful information.

I'm answering your post because when I asked on the forum for my Crawford ancestor, several folks wrote back with South Carolina connections.

My great grandfather was Byrd Crawford. He was born in 1879 in Panther, Alabama (or Pantha). He died in Arcadia, Louisiana in 1948. His father, also named Byrd Crawford disappeared mysteriously not long after he (the younger Byrd) was born. I do not have any more information about Byrd Crawford, Sr., and his family, except that he was Muscogee (Creek).

I will try to find where I put their posts and forward them to you.
