Recon Resource - Book
![]() Family Maps Of ... with Homesteads, Roads, Waterways, Towns, Cemeteries, Railroads, and more Contains maps by Homesteads/Land Patents and is divided into three sections. Two major sections and one called Appendices. This is a re-organization of the data from the BLM, but with additional information.
There are current publications for Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Oklahoma, among others. A. The first section gives an overview of the county/parish and prominent land holding surnames. There is a list of towns (not all inclusive) MAPPED on a GRID system of Congressional Townships/ranges. There is also a SURNAME/Township Index of owners, which maps to the location of their land (Meridian/Township/Range). B. The second section contains "Township Maps", by Township/Range (Land Patent Maps).
For example:
** I found that an ELMORE owned 1 'parcel' of land in Jackson Parish, Louisiana. It was in the Louisiana Meridian, Township 17-N, Range 1-W. 2. Continuing on to the second section:
** ELMORE, Wade owned land in Township 17-N, Rage 1-W, SECTION 28 - E 1/2 of SE (quarter).
