This issue of The Crisis magazine features a look at what it means to grow up Black in the United States. In addition to examining the economic and household status of African American children, we have focused on three key indicators - education, health and juvenile justice - to determine how they are faring. We set out to answer a couple of basic questions: Have Black children shown overall improvement in these categories over the years and how does the status of African American children compare with the well-being of other youth?
