During the years after the formal end of reconstruction, GW Williams was ready to publish his "History of the Negro Race in America from 1619 to 1880".
Per the African American Registry (online), George Washington Williams was born October 16, 1849 in PA. He was a Civil War veteran and minister of the gospel. ¹
He attended Howard University and graduated from Newton Theological Seminary in Cambridge, MA. Williams turned to law, writing and history. Although appointed by one president as minister to Haiti, Grover Cleveland cancelled the appointment. The rest of his life was spent actively speaking out on slavery and its effects on society as a whole. ²
