I really hope that the records that were shipped to NOLA prior to the hurricane have survived. All the old stuff is in Baton Rouge, but anything post 1900 to recent times was in NOLA. Many people in my family that were born in Northern LA have to write to NOLA to get birth certificates. Just imagine if you can't prove your birth anymore because the records were lost...it's very possible that it may happen to scores of people in my family, and others.
