ASU event to honor civil rights advocate
The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at Alabama State University will honor posthumously civil rights advocate Winston Craig during the Fourth Annual E.D. Nixon Institute for Research and Cultural Enrichment.
The event will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the center, 1345 Carter Hill Road.
Craig is best known as the official state chauffeur, personal assistant and confidant to four successive governors of Alabama, beginning with Gov. Frank Dixon in 1939.
