Mural honors women in rights struggle
The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at Alabama State University will unveil a new mural, "The Montgomery Bus Boycott and the Women Who Started It," at 11 a.m. Nov. 13 at the center's annex, 1345 Carter Hill Road.
The mural will honor the Women's Political Council and the litigants of Brooder v. Gayle, the historic 1956 Supreme Court ruling that officially ended legal segregation of Montgomery city buses.
The mural is the second in a series produced by the center to honor and promote the legacy of the civil rights movement.
