Hello Tim,

Another great example of the value of using older newspapers in our research. In this article we see a term not frequently used today ...... forager ..... I can see how the headline and in the body of the article there could be confusion as to this gentleman's role in the Confederate military.
He is described as a veteran and as serving with a named SC unit.

Was he a cook/forager, sometime medic and a mustered in gun carrying soldier, or as the article stated, simply given honorary soldier status? Just a rhetorical question :)
