Re: Black Newspapers in Alabama
In Response To: Black Newspapers in Alabama ()

I am surprised no one has responded to you on this.

Based on your query, my general feeling is I don't think that his being an inmate and passing away is an occurrence that ends up in the newspaper in the 1930s era. But that should not deter you from doing research in black newspapers on him--he may pop up for other reasons.

Here are several suggestions:

1. You may want to look in the Birmingham Reporter. One way you can locate available issues is through Chronicling America:
http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn87050145/

2. Take the time in the coming weeks to look at previous posts made here in this forum for additional help and guidance.

3. Go to Ken Marks' site on newspapers and look at his "African-American Online Historical Newspapers Summary" and other relevant guides.

4. Watch my video on the subject of black newspapers.
