Your documentation looks 'solid' to me. I would think it would not be unusual that "Pages" would be of the pre-teen age during that time period.
Another thought, the Southern Recorder clipping is dated 15 Nov 1870 .... Could Alonzo Slater have still been a Page/Clerk in the Georgia State Legislature for a period of time after the capitol was moved from Milledgeville to Atlanta? of note: the names T.M. Blodgett & E. Thorn above and below that of Alonzo Slater could be Thomas Blodgett & Edwin Thorn also born in Georgia and of an age near the recorded birth date of 21 Jul 1858 for Alonzo Slater.
