Hello vkn,

Milledgeville was the State Capitol from 1804-1868, so Mr. Slater would have been a youth, no more than 10-12 years of age during his term as a "Page".

With the newspaper clipping and the other document in your possession I would look at other Georgia governmental records in the 1865-1868 time period.

The newspaper clipping certainly is a solid piece of information in verifying Alonzo Slater as a Page in the Georgia Legislature when Milledgeville was the State Capitol.

Many scoffed at the family stories of elders that grandpa Alonzo was a Page in the Georgia Legislature when the Capitol was in Milledgeville. Does this news article pass the document test? We do have another document showing where he was paid $50.00.
