NC Drowning in 1933

Since there's a forum for it, I figured to give my query a go here. the death certificate of my great-great grandfather's brother states accidental drowning as a cause of death, while on a fishing trip. As I happened to flip through the records, I noticed the same statement for 5 additional deaths. I imagined such a mysterious tragedy involving 6 men would have been in the news. It is worthy to note that 3 of the men were black and 3 white, seemingly newsworthy for a larger audience. I haven't had any luck finding a newspaper for the area, let alone a news reference to this tragedy. All suggestions are welcome. THanks!
