Never Stop Searching
Believe me when I tell you that black newspapers are wonderful resources and you just never know where information sources for your ancestors will appear.
While doing some work for an upcoming talk in Michigan, I went onto GenealogyBank and was looking for Kalamazoo items in a black Michigan paper called the Plaindealer (1889-93). One of the hits was from a section titled "From Michigan Towns", however among the 7 towns reporting news was Piqua, Ohio! I then preceded to search on the term Piqua and got 90 hits--many of them Piqua news columns. I suspect that there was significant migration from Piqua to Michigan and if one studied the columns they could probably figure out the towns.
You just never know where your communities are going to appear, you just have to search.
