A Death Index for the Courier & More!
Marlene Bransom, a well known and respected African American researcher in the greater Pittsburgh area has just published a book of deaths in the Pittsburgh Courier. It is in 2 volumes and covers the years 1911-12, and 1923-24. What you get is an alphabetical listing, followed by the notices/articles, and in the back of the book is an every name index!
This is wonderful news--and not only for those with ancestors in the Pittsburgh area. Remember, the Courier had national reach and many of the deaths captured by Marlene are from communities as far flung as Alabama and Wyoming. In the link below to the publisher's website, you can see a representative list of a number of towns in several states.
If you choose not to order one for your personal collection, you should encourage your local library to do so to ensure genealogists in your area have a copy close at hand.
Way to go Marlene!!!
