From the February 19, 1910 issue of The Freeman comes a really cool assessment of the black population of Decatur. I posted this and another item about Booker T. Washington coming to the community on the Facebook page of the Decatur Genealogy Society.

What makes this overview of Decatur even more significant is that it comes from an INDIANA paper! A Decatur correspondent sending in news to The Freeman. Once again, the information on your ancestor's communities is out there even if a black paper from there is not!
