Edith, your words "These newspapers really are invaluable-- I have no family memorabilia from that side, so these insights of life between the documented events are truly treasures" certainly ring true with me. My father died when I was 11 years old and I had never met any of his family until his funeral. His funeral in Piqua, OH was attended by his two (2) sisters and a niece who came from Greencastle, IN for the service, a distance of about 175 miles. I never saw the sisters again and didn't see the niece again until after 45 years had passed. Well, the Greencastle, IN news columns in the Indianapolis Recorder are giving me a tremendous insight beyond the genealogical facts & figures I have collected on my father's family in Indiana. Yep, the IR is a virtual gold mine. Art |
