Re: The Cleveland Gazette
In Response To: Re: The Cleveland Gazette ()
Hello Tim, Thanks for the heads-up on the FamilySearch Wiki, I just found it this week. I'm looking forward to attending your OGS Conference presentation in Cleveland, OH on the Cleveland Gazette. I have a relative, Caroline "Carrie" (Williams) Clifford, (1C x 4R) who was a correspondent for AA newspapers in the late 1800's, early 1900's. She wrote for the Indianapolis Freeman, Cleveland Journal & The Colored American out of Wash DC. I'm not sure if she ever wrote for the Cleveland Gazette. Questions.... Was it common for 'writers' to furnish articles for more than one newspaper? Were these "paid' positions? Was the Cleveland Journal an overlap, or a competitor with Gazette? And lastly, are you familiar with the holdings of early AA newspapers at the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus, OH?
Tim, keep on doing what you're doing Art
