In following up on Lisa's recommendation to search archival newspapers on microfilm, I discovered by googling "Greenfield, Indiana" and "library" that the 1922 Greenfield, Indiana city directory is online. I found my great grandfather's brother and nephew listed as barbers, with both their business and residence addresses. This is interesting because the 1920 census indicated that neither one was still working as barbers - but the directory says differently. Recently, I found these old city directories to be a fountain of information, much like newspapers. Incidentally, I made an online request for the Greenfield library to conduct a search of their newspaper for mention of my great grandfather's burial in Greenfield. Don't overlook that libraries in other cities may be posting city directories online to aid your searches.
