I didn't see any articles for Boston Mattox in 1928.

I did see an article for a Boston Mattox in the Charleston Daily Mail dated Oct 14, 1953. and an Obituary for Dolph Mattox that listed his parents as Boston & Susie in the Beckley Raleigh Register dated Apr 16, 1976.

You may want to check these two papers.
You didn't mention the name of his employer maybe the company name would bring up articles. Hope this helps.
