Thanks so much for your information about Lt. Col. Augustus Benedict. Since several of my ancestors and relatives served in Louisiana in the Corps d'Afrique, this news is very disturbing. Besides doing an internet search, can you direct me to the best on line sites that profile Benedict?

If I were to write to elected officials etc in protest, I would need to have more information. Some of the first questions that would be raised is "Why shouldn't he be listed if he served in the Corps D'Afrique?" "Didn't the persons/committee who organized this memorial know of his deeds?" "What made them decide to include him in the memorial?"

An additional question is (mine) has anyone contacted the memorial staff to discuss Benedict with them?

I'm not playing devil's advocate but rather just anticipating the questions that might be raised concerning Benedict and the memorial.
