GEORGE CARSON & HIRAM CARSON, CIVIL WAR

Am searching for information on my GGrandfather & his cousin, who both fought with the U.S. Colored Troops in the Civil War.

My GGrandfather was GEORGE CARSON (b. 1846 in Woodbury, Butler Co., KY), who either enlisted with a USCT regiment from Nashville, TN, or with the MA 54th "Glory" unit under the command of Robert Gould Shaw (who also may be an ancestor).

His cousin, HIRAM CARSON, enlisted with the 10th Cavalry of the Buffalo Soldiers out of Ft. Leavenworth, KS, the day he was discharged from his Civil War Unit in 1866.

How do I go about getting enlistment papers, which would provide much needed family information, or other data on these 2 men? Anyone know of these 2 mystery men?

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you!

MaryEllen Carson
