Hello, Tom Thank you for this posting you and I have talked many many times over the years and you have gone out of your way to be helpful in reference to sharing your vast years of experience on this subject. I will always be greatful for that, when I thank back to reading your desertation the thing that struck me was your objectivity I feel it was one of the first unbiased historys of black regulars ever done I still feel that to this day. Over the last 30 plus years I have tried to be an unbiased historian and to look at history from all perspectives and most importanly always make sure facts are correct and what I learned from that wonderful desertation that these soldier were not supermen just average men good and bad. As you and I both know this is not how there history has come down to us over the years in most cases either one or the other extreme has been used. I feel it is up to people (historians) like you and I and many others to keep the record clean.
