WHERE ARE PENSION RECORDS

This is one section of research I haven't dug into mainly because I have not found any information that supports any of my ancestors served in the civil war --SO FAR. The name ADAMS is so common. I have viewed microfilm with people who have this surname but have not been able to confirm that they are family. Can someone please give me some advice on what is a good start. Ordering information that is not needed is becoming costly. My gggrandfather's name was Daniel ADAMS from Monroe Co. Ms bn abt 1834. The only sibling I'm sure he is related to is sister, Ellen Adams COX and that is because she lived next door and had 4 of his sons in her and her husbands household. None of the ADAMS I have found in the civil war microfilm give any info that they were either bn or resided in
Monroe Ms. at enlistment.
